President Emmerson Mnangagwa is scheduled to launch a large-scale housing initiative targeting young people during the Munhumutapa Day commemorations in Mvurwi, Mashonaland Central province, on September 15. The project, spanning 259 hectares, is part of broader efforts to empower youths with affordable residential stands and homes.
Local officials anticipate a massive turnout, with more than 100,000 people expected to converge on the farming town for the national event. The housing scheme will be formally unveiled by the President, highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing youth housing needs across the country.
Munhumutapa Day, proclaimed last year, celebrates the legacy of the Munhumutapa Empire and its relevance to Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030. The day serves as a reminder of the nation’s proud history and its aspirations for inclusive development, with this year’s focus on youth empowerment through housing.
The project in Mvurwi is expected to provide serviced residential stands, with the first phase targeting hundreds of young beneficiaries. Local leaders have welcomed the initiative, noting that it will help reduce the housing backlog in the province and create opportunities for economic participation.
