Zimbabwe signed off from the 2026 Cossasa Games in style on Wednesday afternoon, overwhelming Lesotho in the final at White City Stadium to claim the overall title in front of a jubilant home crowd.
The hosts were in ruthless mood from the first whistle, combining pace, power and precision to dismantle their regional rivals. By the time the final whistle sounded, there was little doubt about the destination of the trophy as Zimbabwe’s young athletes delivered a performance worthy of champions.
Throughout the week-long competition, Zimbabwe had shown glimpses of their potential, but the final proved to be their most complete display. The team’s technical staff credited the players’ discipline and the support of the Bulawayo crowd for lifting them to another level.
Lesotho, who had impressed en route to the final, simply had no answer to Zimbabwe’s relentless attacking play. The visitors struggled to contain wave after wave of pressure as the home side turned territorial dominance into a commanding scoreline.
The victory caps a successful hosting of the Cossasa Games, with Zimbabwe once again underlining its status as a force in Southern African school sport. Organisers praised the standard of competition and the spirit shown by all participating nations.
With the regional showpiece now concluded, attention will turn to nurturing the talent unearthed during the tournament. Several Zimbabwean athletes are expected to be fast-tracked into national youth development programmes following standout performances at White City Stadium.
